Story Background

Imagine the world as it is today, and fast forward it twenty years, fifty years, maybe more.. Already everything is becoming increasingly dependant on the internet and computers as a mean of comminucating and storing vital information. Every day it grows larger and larger. And more and more out of control.

The world is almost completely reliant on the vast network of computers for performing almost any trival task. This extreme dependance and the incredible size of the network is the cause and solution to all problems of society. Police, the govenrment, and companies are constantly involved in electronic warfare as a new breed of terrorism, i.e. hackers attempting to sabotage network programs or breaking into databases and so on and so forth. The situation seemed to be spiraling more and more out of control, until The Schism occurs. A catastropic seperation in which nearly the entire network is erradicated within a span of five hours, plunging the world's already slipping stability into complete chaos. Nearly all vital records are lost, and all internet reliant systems go down, many which were the sole means of keeping power generators, water supplies, and factories in check and functioning properly. With the elimination of the network, entire countries were effectively placed back into the dark ages. Many malfuctions resulted in explosions and disasters from the network failure, in which many lives were lost. The world must start over from near-scratch, trying as best they can to rebuild society from what little information remained in the form of books and other written material.

Ten years after the Schism, and humanity still does not know what caused the sudden distaser. Bits and pieces of information had slowly been gathered in the years afterwards, and the only evidence gathered points to a man by the name of Shikai Hitasura, who was the age of fifteen at the time of the Schism. No one understands how a young teenager could have single-handedly destroyed the network, and no one has yet been able to positively idenitfy or locate him in the chaos. He may be the only one who is able to explain the events that led to the Schism, and everyone is looking for him. If he exisits, or survived at all.

Name: Shikai Hitasura

Occupation: None
Personality: Shikai is reserved, quiet and sullen. He speaks little, and when he does speak, he's very direct and to the point. While all his actions are quite controlled and thought out, he also works very much from instict as well. He seldom shows any emotion, making his thoughts and actions extremely difficult to read or predict. He values almost nothing, himself included, making him quite ruthless when the situation calls for it. He would perfer to live his life quietly on his own without being bothered by humanity and it's problems, but given his key role in the Schism, this is highly unlikely to happen anytime soon. He is quite driven with inner motivations, though what they truely are aren't always very obvious to the outside observer.

Name: Jiko Akatsuki

Zodiac: Scorpio
Height: 5'7"
Eyes: Green
Occupation: teaching/DJ-ing.
Personality:The complete opposite of Shikai. An extremely intelligent kid whose parents were highly respected experts in the fields of Psychology, Cybernetics and DNA studies before the Schism. Jiko is easily excitable, full of passion and determination. He lives alone, his only family being his twin sister Kitoku, who he loves dearly and would do anything to protect her. He's also a very talented hacker, though he only uses his hacking skills when he feels they're desperately needed, preffering to keep his nose as clean as possible. (Hey, he's got a lot of responsibilties, for a kid his age!) Too bad he seems to have some very bad luck.

Name: Kitoku Akatsuki

Occupation: None
Personality:Kitoku, Jiko's twin sister. The twins were caught in one of the many minor disasters that resulted in the aftershock of the Schism- Though Jiko came out unscathed, Kitoku suffered heavy injuries and was hospitalized for a very long time. Though the she did recover from her wounds, hence she has never mentally fully recovered from the incident, and is currently confined to the Waverly Mental Institute. Jiko constantly stops by to visit her, though her mental state is highly erradic making her actions towards him completely unpredictable. She has a violent temper which can flare up unexpectably, but her mood and outward apperance can change just as suddenly.

Novem Ovum Nine

Name: Apollo Tenerezza
Age: 23
Birthday: Febuary 24
Zodiac: Pisces
Eyes: Yellow
Personality: Jiko's best friends. Though at first glance one might think he's your avaerage angsty punk/troublemaker, Apollo is the exact opposite. He's a quiet, caring guy and is often times very skilled at reading other's thoughts and emotions making him a excellent friend to those around him. Plays lead guitar in a band with Keys, and often times Jiko joins in on their shows as their DJ. It's usually difficult to get him upset or angry, except in cases where someone close to him is suffering for whatever reason. Adopted when he was very young, he lived a very troubled home life for a long time, but still remains loyal to his mother despite her extremely bad treatment towards him.

Birthday: April 12
Zodiac: Aries
Eyes: Blue
Personality: Another one of Jiko's friends. Here is the troublemaker- He's intense and intmidating, often forgetting to think before he acts. Plays keyboards for the band, though he has the ability to play many different instruments. He and Apollo often get into disagreements, his quick temper cools quickly and everything gets sorted out fine in the end. He enjoys joking around and having a good time, but this is also a defense mechanism on his part to forget some of his deep-seated worries and problems that have yet to be resolved fully for him.

Name: Gabby
Age: 22
Birthday: September 27
Zodiac: Libra
Eyes: Magenta
Personality: The third member of the band- She's usually calm, collected, and down to earth. Probably the most sensible of all the band members, and usually winds up with the role of preventing Jiko and Keys from killing each other when they get in some of their worst agruments. Strong and indepedant, she gets want she wants (even if it's sometimes a little odd.) Will get very angry ifpushed far enough, and has no problem taking charge to get things done. Also known for being sarcastic, but in a friendly teasing manner to show her affection for others. Has a young son named Truant, fathered by Keys, that she strives hard to raise as best she can.

The Villains

Name: Quay Sagishi
Age: 34
Birthday: January 2
Zodiac: Capricorn
Personality: What story would be complete without a villain? Though his motives are unclear, he's definitly has some rather twisted plans that concern Shikai. He's ruthless and very driven towards his goals but also level-headed and thoughtful, carefully planning out his actions beforehand. Also rather arrogant and confident, but always proceeds with caution and leaving room for error. A sadistic bastard, who has no problem playing dirty and rather enjoys putting others in akward situations, doing whatever it takes to get the job done. It's all just a game, and one he rather enjoys.

Name: Eugene Nazarene
Age: 28
Birthday: July 25
Zodiac: Leo
Personality: A.k.a. Bitch Boy. Quay's little lapdog, gopher, secretary, does much of the dirty work for him and whatever tasks Quay orders him to. He puts up with a lot of abuse, from both the job and from Quay, but his reasons for tolerating this is unknown. Intelligent and hard-working, the only fear he seems to have about the job is upsetting Quay.

Name: Dr. Alden
An old coworker/partner of Quay's father, who now 'employs' Quay to help achieve his goals.

The Rest

Name: Ruek
Age: 27
Birthday: May 13
Zodiac: Taurus
Personality: He's an extremely level-headed, yet stubborn guy, very down to earth and trustworthy. Not much is know about him, other than he seems to have some distant connection with Shikai's past, though any details are extremely fuzzy. Except he seems to remeber more about Shikai's past that he does. Blunt nearly to a fault, he lays the out how he sees it, and has no problems letting everyone know exactly what that is.

Name: Truant
Keys and Gabby's 5 year old son. Trouble-maker of a kid, much like his father. Excitable and energetic, he's an easy one to love (or hate, depending on your attitude towards kids.)

Name: Anna
Gabby's sister. She helps run the Blue House Bar which she, Gabby, Truant and their dad own and operate. Often babysits for Gabby and does most the bookkeeping. The bar also serves the added bonus of being a convient venue for Novem Ovum Nine to play at.

Name: Jinsei Hitasura
Shikai's older brother. Missing in action, god knows what happened to him. Apparently the two didn't get along so well.

Name: Adrienne Akatsuki
Jiko and Kitoku's mother. She and their father both work in gene therapy and made themselves famous for thier breakthroughs in the feild. Both died during the Schism.

Name: Rikki
A nurse a the Waverly Institute where Kitoku stays. She's one of the few people there who can really handle Kitoku's erratcic behavior somewhat effeciently and without (too) much trouble.
